On August 11, the regular meeting of the Public Council on Fuel and Energy Complex Issues under the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan was held under the chairmanship of Zhakyp Khairushev.
The meeting focused on the modernization of existing energy facilities, improving investment mechanisms in the power sector, prospects for alternative energy development, and the annual Powerexpo Almaty forum as a platform for discussing and monitoring reforms in the sector.
Particular attention was paid to investment agreements aimed at the modernization, expansion, reconstruction and renewal of energy facilities.
According to the Ministry of Energy, nine investment agreements with a total capacity of 963 MW have been implemented to date. Twenty-four investment agreements with a total capacity of 3.8 GW are currently being implemented.
The participants also discussed the development of solar and wind generation, hydropower and hydrogen energy. The Ministry of Energy noted that further integration of renewables into the power system requires the development of energy storage systems.
“More than 8 GW of additional renewable energy capacity is planned to be commissioned by 2035,” the Ministry of Energy said.
Work is also underway to develop energy storage systems and distributed generation, as well as to update the Concept for the Development of Hydrogen Energy through 2040.

Following the meeting, members of the Public Council put forward proposals on the issues discussed.
