QAZAQ GREEN. Deputy Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Ilyas held a meeting with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to discuss further steps in developing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
The meeting was attended by Felicity Spors, Director of the EBRD’s Climate Strategy and Delivery Department, Yerlan Ramazanov, EBRD Deputy Head for Kazakhstan, Christian Carraretto, Deputy Director of the same department, and other bank representatives.
The parties discussed the formation of the JETP project portfolio, the development of cooperation mechanisms with international partners, and the institutional strengthening of the initiative in Kazakhstan.
The Deputy Minister of Energy noted that JETP remains an important tool for the country in achieving its climate goals, attracting investment, and introducing modern technologies in the energy sector.
The parties separately discussed the institutionalization of the partnership: the Ministry believes it is necessary to establish the platform’s operating mechanisms in legal regulations and define transparent rules of engagement for all participants. The EBRD expressed its readiness to provide expert support in developing these mechanisms.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue their joint work on developing the partnership in Kazakhstan.
