Chui Region A national workshop was held in Bishkek to validate the Seventh National Report of the Kyrgyz Republic on the Conservation of Biodiversity—a key document reflecting the country’s progress in fulfilling its international environmental commitments.
The report was prepared by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic with the support of UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic and the BIOM Environmental Movement.
The Seventh National Report is the primary tool for assessing Kyrgyzstan’s progress in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. In 2026, it will be presented as the country’s contribution to the global review of progress at the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
UNDP continues to support the Kyrgyz Republic in promoting sustainable solutions and preserving the country’s unique natural heritage, as well as in implementing the National Development Program 2030.
The National Development Program 2030 is based on four development vectors, where natural resource management plays a key role.
During the workshop, representatives of government agencies, the scientific community, experts, and partner organizations discussed:
▪️ progress in conserving ecosystems and expanding the network of specially protected natural areas
▪️ forest restoration and sustainable use of natural resources
▪️ conservation of species diversity, including measures to restore the snow leopard population
▪️ risks to biodiversity associated with climate change
▪️ integration of biodiversity issues into public policy, education, and public awareness
financial and institutional mechanisms for implementing national priorities
The preparation of the national report is an important platform for uniting the efforts of the government, the expert community, and development partners in formulating long-term solutions for environmental conservation in Kyrgyzstan. The process of preparing the report was supported by the UNDP-GEF project “Umbrella program for supporting the NBSAP and the preparation of the Seventh National Reports”.
