On April 8, 2026, in the city of Dushanbe, at the Rumi Hotel, the official launch ceremony of the project “Integrated Programme for Reducing the Use of Hydrofluorocarbons and Promoting Sustainable Cooling in the Republic of Tajikistan” was held.

The event was attended by First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Shukurzoda Isfandiyor, as well as representatives of development partners and international organizations.

The project is being implemented by the Committee for Environmental Protection in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme and is funded by the Global Environment Facility.

The key objective of the project is to reduce the use of hydrofluorocarbons-powerful greenhouse gases-by 70 percent by 2029. This initiative will contribute to the implementation of the Republic of Tajikistan’s international commitments under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol.

Within the framework of the project, the main focus will be on the following priority areas:
– improving the regulatory and legal framework;
– strengthening the professional capacity of specialists in the cooling sector;
– introducing modern, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly technologies.

At the same time, special attention will be given to gender equality and the active involvement of women in environmental activities.

The project is planned for the period 2026-2030 and will be implemented under the national implementation mechanism.

As a result of successful implementation, it is expected that:
– the consumption and emissions of hydrofluorocarbons will be reduced;
– national capacity in sustainable cooling will be strengthened;
– private sector investments will be attracted;
– significant progress will be achieved in fulfilling international commitments.

At the conclusion of the event, participants expressed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation and implement joint initiatives in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development.
