An eco-hour event, “Save Water – Save the Future!”, was held in Astana, bringing together students from over 40 colleges in the capital and North Kazakhstan region. The event, held at the Astana Akimat’s Technological College, was part of the state-run “Adal Azamat” program.

UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan Katarzyna Waviernia and First Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurlan Aldamzharov spoke at the eco-hour. The speakers discussed the importance of water, ways to conserve it, and the measures the Ministry is taking to train qualified water resources specialists.

In particular, Vaviernia emphasized the importance of the upcoming regional environmental summit, which will be held in Astana from April 22 to 24. She noted that the summit will discuss key issues related to water resources and management technologies, highlighting the relevance of the issue in Central Asia.

The eco-hour was attended by 125 students from the Technological College, as well as students from 26 colleges in Astana and 19 colleges in the North Kazakhstan region, who joined remotely. Participants presented their projects on the application of water-saving technologies in various fields.

Additionally, event guests were introduced to unique laboratory equipment that will help future hydraulic engineers develop the necessary competencies. Incidentally, the college received a license to train hydraulic engineers under the dual education system in 2025.

The Regional Environmental Summit, scheduled for April, will provide an important platform for discussing transboundary water issues. This event will attract the attention of global experts and allow for the exchange of best practices in environmental matters.

Thus, the eco-hour and the upcoming summit highlight the growing importance of environmental issues in Kazakhstan and the need for youth to actively engage in addressing these issues.

In the future, it is expected that such initiatives will continue, contributing to increased environmental literacy and student engagement in sustainable water resource management issues.
