On 14 May 2026, within the framework of the 35th Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), a side event entitled “Taking Action Across Agrifood Systems for Biodiversity and Global Impact” was held under the framework of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity.
The event brought together representatives of countries, international organizations, sectoral institutions, and experts in the fields of environment and agriculture. The Republic of Tajikistan was represented by Mr. Isfandiyor Shukurzoda, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, who delivered a statement during the event.
In his address, Mr. Shukurzoda emphasized that climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation, and the depletion of water resources are among the most pressing global challenges of our time, requiring integrated and coordinated responses at the national, regional, and international levels.
He also highlighted that, thanks to the global initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honourable Emomali Rahmon, issues related to water, climate change, and glacier protection have gained significant attention on the international agenda.
At the conclusion of the event, participants underscored the importance of strengthening regional cooperation on climate change and biodiversity issues, as well as enhancing access to climate finance.
In addition, the Committee for Environmental Protection organized a glacier-themed pavilion at the conference venue, “Kokhi Somon.” Throughout the conference, participants visited the pavilion and became acquainted with the activities of the Agency for Hydrometeorology under the Committee, particularly its work on glacier monitoring and research.
