On November 15, 2025, on the sidelines of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-30) in Belém, Brazil, a signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding was held between the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Japanese company ArkEdge Space Inc.
This marked an important step for cooperation in capacity building, glacier remote sensing, climate change monitoring, greenhouse gases and air quality, which is essential for enhancing climate resilience and scientific capacity.
Furthermore, during the event, Mr. Abdullo Habibullo Kurbonzoda, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, met with Mr. Kentaro Doi, Vice Minister for Global Environmental Affairs of Japan. They expressed their intention to promote joint scientific publications, participate in international conferences, and explore opportunities for attracting funding from international partners.
The signing of the Memorandum once again underscores Tajikistan’s commitment to strengthening climate science, expanding international cooperation, and developing innovative approaches to monitoring climate processes, which is particularly important for a country with the largest glacier resources in Central Asia.
