On 12 November 2025, the Water Diplomacy Center was officially opened in Dushanbe at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin.

The establishment of the Center, which has a research and educational orientation, became possible with the technical support of GIZ and is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Tajikistan’s first global water initiative—the proclamation of 2003 as the International Year of Freshwater. The Center is equipped with modern facilities required for training programmes, analytical work, and expert discussions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan fully supports the Center’s activities, viewing its establishment as a professional and institutional response to the challenges facing the country’s foreign and water policy. The Center has already become a platform for dialogue and the advancement of key issues in water diplomacy in Tajikistan. It will further serve to consolidate scientific research, train and build the capacities of civil servants and diplomats on transboundary water cooperation, and strengthen the expert potential needed to promote water diplomacy at the national and regional levels.
