QAZAQ GREEN.  13 January 2026. Tajikistan is set to implement its first large-scale solar power project with a total installed capacity of 500 MW, marking a milestone in the country’s energy sector.

On 13 January, within the framework of a draft Government Resolution, an Investment Agreement was signed between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and Ayon Energy LLC. The agreement provides for the construction and commissioning of two photovoltaic solar power plants: a 250 MW facility in the Asht district and a 250 MW facility in the Jayhun district. The announcement was made by “Khovar”, citing the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management.

The project represents the first major solar energy initiative in Tajikistan and signals a new stage in the development of renewable energy and modern energy infrastructure. Never before has a solar project of this installed capacity been implemented in the country, underscoring a shift toward alternative and renewable energy sources.

The initiative is being carried out in line with instructions from the President of the Republic of Tajikistan outlined in the Address to the Majlisi Oli, as well as national measures aimed at advancing green energy.

The solar power plants are expected to enhance the country’s energy independence, reduce seasonal electricity shortages—particularly during the winter months—ease pressure on the power system, and improve the reliability of electricity supply for households and the national economy.

The investor is committed to completing the design, construction, and commissioning of the facilities within 2026. Total investment in the project amounts to USD 250 million.
