The Agency for Hydrometeorology of Tajikistan has received modern equipment for monitoring glaciers, water resources, and hydrometeorological processes.

The equipment was handed over with the participation of representatives of the Asian Development Bank in Tajikistan, the Embassy of Japan in Tajikistan, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Hydrometeorological Center received field, monitoring, information technology, and surveying equipment. The agency also received a snowmobile and a service vehicle.

The new equipment will help specialists more accurately monitor the state of glaciers, water resources, and weather processes, as well as improve data collection and analysis.

The parties also discussed the progress of the project, the results achieved, future plans, financing, procurement, and the implementation of project indicators.

Tajikistan’s Hydrometeorological Service has previously received support from international partners. Over the years, the agency has received automatic weather stations, hydrological monitoring equipment, a mobile air quality laboratory, drones, off-road vehicles, and equipment for expeditionary work. Such assistance was provided, in particular, through projects by the World Bank, the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation, the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the EU/GIZ, and other partners.

The “Glacier Melt Management and Water Security” project aims to strengthen Tajikistan’s capacity to monitor glaciers, snow reserves, and water resources. This is especially important for a country where glaciers play a key role in water resource formation.
