In Bangkok, during a working visit to the Kingdom of Thailand, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Malaysia Mukhametniyaz Mashalov met with UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana.

The parties discussed key vectors of a long-term partnership between Turkmenistan and ESCAP, focused on sustainable development, expanding regional economic integration, adapting to climate change, and combating desertification.

Particular emphasis was placed during the conversation on the practical implementation of the President of Turkmenistan’s initiative to establish a Regional Center to Combat Desertification for Central Asian countries in Ashgabat. In this context, the parties emphasized the importance of the upcoming participation of a high-level Turkmen delegation in the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17) in Mongolia in August 2026, as well as in the 83rd session of ESCAP, scheduled for April 2027 in Shanghai.
