UN ESCAP Adopts Tajikistan Resolution on Water and Climate Cooperation

On April 25, 2025, during the 81st session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), on the initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan, the resolution “Strengthening cooperation on water resources and climate change for sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region” was unanimously adopted, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.

According to the Resolution, the parties welcome the initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan to hold in 2025 the International Conference on Glacier Protection and the Regional Preparatory Meeting for the UN Water Conference in 2026, and also call on all UN Member States, its relevant structures and other international and regional organizations, as well as interested parties, to take part in these events.

At the same time, this resolution notes that the proclamation of 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Conservation, the recognition of March 21 as World Glacier Day and the holding by the Republic of Tajikistan of the International Conference on Glacier Conservation in 2025 serve to strengthen international solidarity.

It is worth noting that the adoption of this initiative once again proves the important role of Tajikistan in advancing the water and climate agenda, including the protection of glaciers at the global level.
