UNESCO, in collaboration with the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP), has launched a free online course titled “Navigating Climate Information with Media and Information Literacy (MIL)”. The initiative aims to empower learners worldwide to critically engage with climate-related information and combat misinformation.

The course integrates media and information literacy with climate science, enabling participants to analyze, evaluate, and share reliable information. It is designed for students, educators, journalists, policymakers, and anyone interested in enhancing their understanding of climate change and its portrayal in the media.

Key Highlights of the Course:

  • Free and Accessible: Available globally at no cost.

  • Self-paced Learning: Participants can learn at their own pace.

  • Interdisciplinary Approach: Combines MIL competencies with climate science.

  • Target Audience: Open to learners from all backgrounds, including youth, teachers, media professionals, and decision-makers.

By improving critical thinking and media literacy, the course seeks to build resilience against climate disinformation, foster informed decision-making, and encourage collective climate action.

The course is part of UNESCO’s broader commitment to promoting Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED), equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills to tackle 21st-century challenges.
