Uzbekistan builds 1 GW solar plant and energy storage system in Samarkand region

QAZAQ GREEN.  A 1 GW solar power plant and a 700 MW energy storage system are under construction in the Samarkand region of Uzbekistan as part of a large-scale energy project aimed at strengthening electricity supply to Tashkent and the Fergana Valley, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan reported.

The project also includes the construction of a major substation and a 441-kilometre transmission line. Together, the facilities will form one of the largest energy infrastructure complexes in the country.

Once commissioned, the solar plant is expected to generate around 2.4 billion kWh of electricity annually. The energy storage system will be capable of storing and supplying up to 1 billion kWh to the grid, supporting system balancing as the share of renewable energy continues to grow.
