Yesterday, February 13, a trilateral meeting of the energy ministers of the three countries, as well as a meeting of the heads of relevant departments, took place in Tashkent. 

The talks were attended by Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Erlan Akkenzhenov, Kyrgyzstan’s Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibrayev, and Uzbekistan’s Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov. Tajikistan’s Energy Minister Daler Juma was also invited to the meeting. 

The parties discussed the current state of cooperation in water and energy resource management and issues of stable operation of the regional energy system. 

Particular attention was paid to coordinating the operating modes of power plants, adhering to water use parameters, and developing joint solutions. 

The importance of mutual support during periods of seasonal stress and maintaining stable water levels in transboundary rivers to ensure energy security in the region was noted. 

Following the meeting, a protocol was signed, formalizing the agreements and confirming the intention to continue cooperation. 

Previously, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan agreed to jointly finance the construction of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power station, which will be located on the Naryn River in Kyrgyzstan.
