The government of Uzbekistan has adopted a decree aimed at the rational use of water resources. The document also aims to prevent water shortages this year.
The document states that 600 billion soums will be allocated to modernize the water management system and improve infrastructure nationwide. Most of the allocated funds—480 billion soums—will be used for concreting and reconstructing canals. The remaining funds will be spent on water supply-related activities.
As part of the decree’s implementation, canals and water networks will be repaired. Construction of new reservoirs and infrastructure facilities is also expected. The document also notes plans to introduce water use limits and strengthen the digitalization of water supply and metering (for agriculture).
It is worth noting that water is one of the most pressing issues for Uzbekistan. The government is taking measures to prevent a water crisis in the country.
