QAZAQ GREEN. Kazakhstan plans to commission 570 MW of new renewable energy capacity in 2027. Solar and wind power projects are scheduled to come online across five regions as part of a broader plan to add 845 MW of new generation capacity nationwide, Kazakh Energy ministry reports.

A 100 MW solar power plant is planned for Almaty Region. Kyzylorda Region is set to receive three solar and wind projects with a combined capacity of 120 MW, including two 70 MW solar plants and a 50 MW wind farm. Two 100 MW wind farms are planned in Aktobe Region.

Another 50 MW wind farm is scheduled to be commissioned in Turkestan Region, while two wind projects with a combined capacity of 100 MW are planned in Abai Region.

In addition to renewable energy projects, Kazakhstan plans to add 275 MW of thermal generation capacity in 2027. Five gas turbine units with a combined capacity of 210 MW are planned at Zhambyl GRES. A 160 MW combined-cycle gas turbine unit is scheduled for MAEK, while the first stage of Basquat Energoprom’s project will add 34.7 MW through five gas piston units. Kazakhmys Energy is also expected to commission a 70 MW combined-cycle unit.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the new generation capacity is expected to cover the country’s electricity needs by the first quarter of 2027. By the end of the year, Kazakhstan is expected to have an electricity surplus of around 1.3 billion kWh.

In 2026, Kazakhstan is expected to commission around 2.6 GW of new generation capacity, including four gas-fired power plants, expansions at two existing power plants and 10 new renewable energy facilities.
