Environmental risks we live in.

The republic’s ecology remains one of those areas where problems are visible in several areas at once—from the state of glaciers and water quality to waste, pasture degradation, and air pollution.
Glacier coverage has significantly decreased in recent decades. Meanwhile, access to centralized water supplies remains limited for a significant portion of the population.Â
Waste management also remains a serious problem: most solid waste landfills are not properly equipped.Â
More than 90% of natural pastures are degraded, and transport emissions continue to increase.
There are other environmental risks, too. The country has very low forest cover, problems with uranium tailings dumps persist, and climate change is increasing droughts, heat waves, and the risk of natural disasters.
At the same time, projects aimed at improving the situation are being implemented. International climate financing has been approved for Tajikistan, a large-scale greening program is underway, the reclamation of uranium sites continues, forests are being restored, and air quality monitoring is being expanded.
In three images, we have compiled key indicators that provide insight into the state of the environment in Tajikistan and the measures being taken to improve it.
