In honor of World Water Day on March 22, on the initiative of the Committees for Environmental Protection and for Youth and Sports, a scientific-practical conference was held in the hall of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, with the participation of leadership and representatives of ministries and government agencies, as well as higher education institutions of the country. The conference was titled: “The Role of Youth in Implementing the International Initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, in the Fields of Water, Climate, and Glacier Protection.”
At the event, the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection, Shukurzoda Isfandiyor and the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Youth and Sports, Rahimzoda Shabnam, delivered speeches.
They emphasized that, fortunately, today, thanks to the stability of the state independence of the Republic of Tajikistan, security and peace, national unity, and the constructive policy of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, the international community recognizes and respects Tajikistan as a peace-loving country and an active participant in addressing international issues, particularly in the areas of water, climate, and glacier protection. Indeed, the contributions and initiatives of the respected Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, in strengthening global peace and stability and improving the system of international relations are outstanding and are recognized as a testament to the development of contemporary Tajik science.
At the conclusion of the event, other speakers addressed issues related to water, climate, and glaciers, noting that the global community today clearly understands that further reduction and degradation of drinking water sources on the planet could lead humanity to numerous humanitarian, social, and economic catastrophes. Therefore, the international community must develop and implement joint measures to address these global challenges as soon as possible.
It was precisely the threats of global climate warming to the glaciers of Tajikistan and the world that prompted the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, in addition to four global initiatives related to water, to present a new initiative to the international community on glacier protection, aiming to draw humanity’s attention to the risk of depletion of water resources. This is why the importance and timeliness of Tajikistan’s fifth global initiative in glacier protection were unanimously recognized by the world community, including the United Nations.
Overall, at this scientific-practical conference titled “The Role of Youth in Implementing the International Initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, in the Fields of Water, Climate, and Glacier Protection,” it was highlighted and scientifically concluded that the Republic of Tajikistan has proposed numerous initiatives at the global and regional levels to contribute to addressing the global issues of water and climate. Their main goal is to prevent the negative consequences of climate change and to strengthen cooperation in solving environmental problems, particularly glacier melting and the reduction of water resources globally.
Another aspect of Tajikistan’s global initiatives in addressing world environmental challenges is the presentation of the country’s environmental policy on the international stage, which has attracted the attention of the global community to Tajikistan’s green nature, abundant water resources, large glaciers, and the country’s significant hydro-energy potential.
