Turkmen Specialists Explore Uzbekistan’s Experience in Sustainable Water Management and Climate-Resilient Technologies

From 8 to 14 June 2026, representatives of the Renewable Energy Research and Production Center under the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan participated in a study tour to the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Tashkent.

The study tour aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge of practical solutions for sustainable water resources management, renewable energy applications, and climate-resilient agricultural practices. In Karakalpakstan, the delegation visited experimental bio-plateau systems designed for the natural treatment and reuse of drainage water, observed solar-powered pumping stations, and explored innovative microalgae cultivation technologies. The programme also included meetings with researchers and experts from scientific institutions and the International Innovation Center for the Aral Sea Basin.

In Tashkent, participants visited the Research Institute of Irrigation and Water Problems, where they learned about modern approaches to assessing soil salinity and water quality, laboratory-based research, and methods for improving water-use efficiency in agriculture. The delegation also visited a farm applying agrivoltaic systems, demonstrating the integration of agricultural production with solar energy generation.

The study tour provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and regional cooperation between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The experience gained will support the introduction of innovative environmental solutions, strengthen institutional capacities, and contribute to the sustainable management of natural resources and climate adaptation efforts in Turkmenistan.
