From 16 to 19 June 2026, a regional training workshop was held in Dushanbe under the project ‘Climate-Sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia’, implemented by GIZ.
The training brought together professionals from basin water management organizations across Central Asia to enhance their knowledge and skills in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), with a particular focus on climate and gender considerations. Strengthening the capacities of water sector institutions and professionals is one of the key objectives of the project, contributing to increased resilience of the region’s water sector to the impacts of climate change.
During the training, participants were introduced to modern IWRM approaches and tools developed with the support of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (Germany). They also exchanged experiences and discussed practical solutions for adapting the water sector to growing climate challenges. Special attention was given to regional knowledge sharing and the application of sustainable water management practices.
The practical component of the programme included a field visit to the Nurek Reservoir and the Eskiguzar-1 Pumping Station. Participants gained first-hand insights into the operation of strategically important water infrastructure facilities and explored current challenges and opportunities for ensuring water security under changing climatic conditions.
The training served as an important platform for strengthening regional cooperation, promoting knowledge exchange, and enhancing the professional capacities of specialists responsible for sustainable water resources management across Central Asia.
